Westover Farms is an amazing place to visit, with almost 500 acres, most of which is maintained as wilderness, but much of which is improved into a beautiful nature park.
Westover Farms caters to fly fishermen, of course, but it's also fast becoming one of the region's most sought after corporate retreat destinations as well. As an educational venue, Westover Farms has a variety of ammenties to make lectures, group discussion, presentations and demonstrations comfortable. We might even have to have class outside!
As a fishing destination, Westover Farms boasts a variety of fishing challenges. A fen-style spring (a rare type of wetland) feeds the spring branch and the brook. The brook has just been recently opened to the public. It's what we call "skinny water", and it will test your technical skills to their limit. The spring branch flows both into the English-style meadow stream and into the creek, turning it from a trickle into a very nice wild trout stream. In other words, there are four different types of trout stream on the property, ranging from beginner to expert.
When you pull a rainbow trout out of the stream, you'll know it's one of Westover's two different special hybridized trout strains, both bred for strength, fast growth and aggressive nature. And while you'll certainly catch fish stocked from Westover Hatchery, you'll also catch wild stream-bred fish, as the creeks are mostly catch & release and managed to encourage natural reproduction. In addition, if you forget something, Dry Creek Outfitters (Westover's fly shop) is here to keep you geared up right.
In addition to fly fishing, you'll also find miles of trails suitable for hiking, biking and horseback riding. And for a new experience, you might give the shooting range a try. Even if you've never fired a weapon before, Westover's resident sporting clay experts will be happy to help you learn.
