Sedalia Winter Trout Area
Liberty Park Pond This page was updated 1/20/08
From November 1 through January 31, artificial flies and lures only,
catch and release only. At all other times, no bait restrictions with
a daily limit of 4 trout.
Missouri's urban lake winter trout fishing program has continued to grow and expand,
and Sedalia's 3.2 acre liberty Park Pond is one of the newer success stories. The first
stocking generally takes place the first week of November, and additional stockings
may also take place over the winter months. The Missouri Dept. of Conservation and
Sedalia's Parks & Recreation Dept. are working together to make this winter trout
pond a reality.
Catching wintertime trout in lakes can be tricky. Oxygen is good, so they're able to
chase lures like spinners, crankbaits, jigs, streamers, etc. However, the colder the
water is, the lower their metabolism is, and the less hungry they are. For this reason,
the fishing tends to be best in November. As spring approaches, they'll get hungry again.
Anytime you get a few days of unseasonably warm weather, though, go give it a shot.
