Stone Mill Spring
Fishing Reports
This page was updated 5/31/09

This report was submitted by Chris ________ of St. Robert on 2/7/09

Date of Trip: 2/6/09
Times fished: 3:30pm - 5:00pm
Air Temperature: Chilly
Weather: Sunny
Water Level: Average
Water quality: Milky
What worked: Glo-bug

I got out of work a little early this Friday afternoon and couldn't resist the opportunity offered by the rare warm weather. I don't fish much in Stone Mill because it seems like before the sound of the stocking truck has passed into the distance every guy in Pulaski County who owns a Zebco has a stringer of 20 fish. But it was close and time was a factor, so a friend and I made the trip with the hopes that winter catch and release rules had been adhered to. The good news is, there was plenty of fish activity in spite of the last stocking being in October. I was able to outsmart only two of them with my Glo-Bug but I saw plenty more silhouetted in the cloudy water and even more of the the tell tale surface disturbances that indicate a fish lurking below. All in all an awesome remedy for a late winter case of cabin fever.

Thanks, Walt for I attended your fly fishing class on Ft Leonard Wood a year ago and appreciate the opportunity it's given me to enjoy this sport... my wife's not so grateful ;)

Very happy that the class helped so much (and my apologies to your wife). Thanks for the kind words and for the fishing report. Hope to hear from you again soon.

This report was submitted by Eugene Moore of Union on 11/26/07

Date of Trip: 11/25/07
Times fished: 9:00am - 3:00pm
Air Temperature: Comfy
Weather: Partly Cloudy
Water Level: Average
Water quality: Slightly Clouded
What worked: Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear

Caught 66 fish mostly 12-13 inches. Hits on almost every cast. Average 10 trout/hour. Just stocked for catch and release. My neighbor and I had the stream to ourselves all day. He took 50 from one spot.

Holy cow! Thanks for the report Eugene. Stone Mill Spring always has a few fish in it, but it gets cleaned out pretty good after the stocking truck leaves. Hopefully, winter catch & release will catch on there.
